Flowers Checklist

By Meghan Carter

As soon as you get home:
  • Unwrap the fresh cut flowers.
  • Fill a clean vase with lukewarm water.
  • Add flower food to the water.
  • Stir the water until the flower food dissolves.
  • Remove the leaves from the part of the stems that will be under water.
  • Cut one of the stems at an angle.
  • Quickly put the stem in water right after cutting it.
  • Continue cutting the stems at and angle and quickly putting them in water until all have been cut and put in the vase.
  • Arrange the flowers how you like them.
  • Put your flowers in a place that is away from direct sunlight, microwaves, refrigerators, televisions, heating and cooling vents - anything that would heat or chill the flowers.

Every day after bringing the flowers home:
  • Hold all of the flowers together in your hand.
  • Take all of the flowers out of the vase.
  • Put a rubber band around the stems to keep the flowers in place.
  • Lay the flowers down.
  • Empty the old water out of the vase.
  • Fill the vase with fresh, lukewarm water.
  • Put flower food in the water.
  • Stir the flower food until it dissolves.
  • Pick up the flowers.
  • Cut the stems of the flowers at an angle just above the last place they were cut.
  • Take the rubber band off of the stems
  • Put the flowers back in the water.
