Glass Etching Supplies

  • Glass Cleaner
  • Vinyl Contact
  • Craft Knife or Razor Knife
  • Glass Object to Etch
  • Glass Etching Cream
  • Paintbrush
  • Carbon Paper or a Stencil

Steps for How to Create Your Own Glass Etching Design

  • Wash the glass object with the glass cleaner.
  • Completely dry the glass object.
  • Cut a piece of vinyl contact bigger than the size of the pattern you wish to etch.
  • Firmly press the vinyl contact on the glass object making sure the vinyl contact is perfectly smooth.
  • Reapply the vinyl contact paper if there are air bubbles underneath.
  • Place the carbon paper on the vinyl contact.
  • If you are using a picture to trace, place it on the carbon paper.
  • Draw or trace the design.
  • Cut the design out using a craft or razor knife.
  • Peel off the sections of the vinyl where you want the glass to be etched.
  • Apply the etching cream as evenly as possible over the exposed areas of the glass with a paintbrush.
  • Leave the etching cream on for the amount of time suggested on the label.
  • Rinse the etching cream off with clean water.
  • Remove the vinyl contact.
  • Clean the glass object with glass cleaner.
