Globe Checklist

By Meghan Carter

A globe offers an accurate representation of the world, whereas, maps are distorted representations of the world. A globe allows you to better understand the locations of each place in the world, but lacks sufficient detail. A map contains high amounts of detail for each location, but does not accurately display the true distances between locations.

Examples of when to use a Globe:

  • To see the relationship between different locations in the world.
  • To get accurate distance measurements between two locations.
  • To see the paths ships and planes take when traveling to different locations.
  • To understand the ocean currents and weather.

Examples of when to use a Map:

  • To see the streets in a country or city.
  • To see geographic details such as small lakes and rivers.
  • To see the location of small cities, towns and villages.
