Physical Appeal: Picking Globes for Beauty

  • Color: The colors on the globe's map should complement the colors in your room.
  • Size: The globe should be to scale with where you place it in the room. It shouldn't look too big or too small for the spot.
  • Style: The globe should be a similar style to the décor in the room.

Mental Appeal: Picking Globes for Function

  • Size: Check to see how much information is on a globe before buying. The bigger the globe, the more information it typically has; however, contemporary globes often have fewer place names and information for aesthetic appeal.
  • Type of Information: There are many different types of globes including, antique globes, political globes, constellation globes, topography globes, and children's globes.
  • Information Display: Globes typically have the information displayed as just words or as pictures and words. Consider getting a globe with picture and words because it "immediately triggers questions," as Terry Donovan, the chief cartographer at Replogle Globes, said.
