Things to do before shopping for rustic furniture such as hickory chairs:

  • Measure the place where you plan to put the rustic furniture.
    • Length: _________________________________
    • Width:__________________________________
    • Depth:__________________________________
    • Extra Measurements:_______________________
  • Measure all doors, walkways and stairwells that the rustic furniture must travel through before it reaches it destination.
    • Entrance door width:_______________________
    • Entrance door height:_______________________
    • Stairwell width:___________________________
    • Stairwell height:___________________________
    • Other measurements:_______________________
  • Take pictures of the room where you plan to put the rustic furniture and take the pictures with you when go shopping.
  • Gather fabric, paint and wood samples of the items used to decorate the room where the rustic furniture will go. Take those samples with you when you go shopping.

While shopping for rustic furniture:

  • Check to make sure the rustic furniture does not wobble. It should be very stable.
  • Look on the rustic furniture where you see the bark and the inside of the wood. If there is a gap between bark and the wood, do not buy that piece of furniture. The bark and the wood should look seamless.
  • Sit in the rustic furniture to make sure it is comfortable. Lean back for at least five minutes before getting up. Then walk around and sit down again before buying.
