  • Get up Close and Personal with the Sheets: Ignore price, thread count and name brands and let your sense of touch lead the way. After a night of having the sheets wrapped around your body, the only thing that really matters is how they make you feel. So when selecting sheets pull them out of the package and feel them, and if you can, try to feel just one layer of the sheets.
  • Feel the Weight of the Sheets: Not only is how sheets feels important to getting a good night's rest, but also how sheets hang on your body is critical too. So along with feeling your sheets, you need to drape one layer over your hand to get a sense for how it will wrap your body. There really is a big difference between silky sateen sheets and heavy, crisp percale sheets.
  • Test how They Wrinkle: Don't think those sheets are going to stay nicely folded and professionally pressed. They need to stand up to tossing and turning night after night and be able to withstand wash after wash. Once quick test to check a sheets propensity to wrinkle is to tightly ball up wad in your fist. You'll easily be able to tell which sheets wrinkle easier by how much they hold the creases.
  • Consider if You Like it Hot or Not:  Sheets can vary greatly in how well they insulate, and you need to choose fabrics according to the climate in your bedroom and how you prefer to sleep to stay comfortable through the night. As a general rule, silk sheets will keep you the warmest, linen sheets will help you stay cool through muggy nights and cotton varies between the two. And if you're going to go with cotton, Egyptian cotton is the best quality. Just thought you'd like to know.
  • What Mood do You Want to be in: When selecting a color don't just think about what will match your curtains or carpet. Color greatly affects your mood and how you feel while in your bed. So be sure to consider what color you'd enjoy seeing last thing every night and first thing every morning.
  • Do You Look Good in Your Sheets: You wouldn't buy an outfit if you looked bad in it, so why would you buy sheets that don't make you look good. You need to consider what color compliments your hair, eyes and skin. After all, sheets aren't just for sleeping.
