What You Need to Sponge Paint
  • Two Different Colors of Paint
  • Glazing Liquid
  • Paint Brush or Roller
  • A Sea Sponge
  • A Bucket Full of Water
  • Lots of Paper Towels
  • A Paint Tray
  • An Old, Metal or Plastic Pan

Sponge Painting Walls Steps
  • Paint the walls the color you want to be the base coat.
  • Allow the paint to dry completely.
  • Mix the paint you want to sponge on the walls with the glazing liquid in a paint tray.
    • For a translucent look: 3 parts glaze to 1 part paint
    • For a medium look: 2 parts glaze to 1 part paint
    • For a dark look: 1 part glaze to 1 part paint
  • Place numerous paper towels in the old pan.
  • Dip your sponge into the bucket of water.
  • Ring the sponge out completely.
  • Dip the flat side of the sponge in the paint-glaze mixture.
  • Wipe the excess paint off in the paint tray.
  • Dab the sponge on the paper towels to remove extra paint.
  • Start sponge painting in the least seen corner of the room.
  • Lightly dab the sponge on the wall.
  • Rotate the sponge a bit.
  • Align the sponge so that it slightly touches the place you last dabbed.
  • Dab the sponge on the wall again.
  • Continue the process of putting paint on the sponge, wiping the sponge off, dabbing the sponge on the paper towels and dabbing the sponge on the wall until the entire area has been sponge painted.

Sponge Painting Wall Inside Corners Steps
  • Cut a small piece of your sponge with scissors.
  • Dip the sponge piece in the bucket of water.
  • Ring it out completely.
  • Dip the sponge piece in the paint mixture.
  • Wipe the excess paint off in the paint tray.
  • Dab the sponge piece on the paper towels.
  • Lightly dab the sponge piece in the corner.
  • Rotate the sponge piece a bit.
  • Align the sponge piece so that it slightly touches the place you last dabbed.
  • Dab the sponge piece on the wall again.
  • _ Repeat the process of putting paint on the sponge piece, wiping the sponge piece off, dabbing the sponge piece on the paper towels and dabbing the sponge piece on the wall until the entire inside corners have been sponge painted
