Some ways to incorporate Victorian décor into your home:
  • Have an artist make your fireplace look like marble using a faux painting technique.
  • Install stained glass or art glass windows.
  • If you have tall ceilings, switch out your standard size doors for extra tall doors.
  • Have fretwork installed above room entrances or windows.
  • Choose furniture pieces that in a style that is Victorian or Pre-Victorian. During the Victorian time period they decorated with both.
  • Hang highly decorative wallpaper on both the walls and ceilings. Some wallpaper manufacturers offer reproduction Victorian wallpaper.
  • Don't go minimalistic when decorating shelves, bookcases or tabletops. The Victorians filled their rooms with numerous decorative knick-knacks.
  • Look at historic paint colors typical of the Victorian time period when looking for colors to use when decorating.
