Washing Bed Sheets Checklist

By Meghan Carter

  • Don't send your sheets out to be dry-cleaned. Wash them at home.
  • Use a front-loading washing machine if possible.
  • Turn your water setting onto cold. Avoid hot water at all costs.
  • Select the gentle cycle. Your sheets don't need to be jostled around to be clean.
  • Never use bleach. If you have to, oxygen bleach is okay. Test it on a corner first.
  • Choose a mild detergent that doesn't have any brighteners, whiteners, fragrance or coloring added.
  • Completely dissolve the soap before putting the sheets in.
  • Don't overload the washer.
  • Line dry your sheets to lengthen their lifespan.
  • If you must use a dryer, select the air tumble setting.
